Markus Eiche

The German baritone Markus Eiche was born in Sankt Georgen and studied music in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, where his teachers included Bernhard Jaeger-Böhm and Carl Davis. He has won numerous international singing competitions, including the first prize in the Francesco Vinas Competition in Barcelona. He has also received support from the Richard-Wagner-Verband. Between 2001 and 2007 he was a member of the Mannheim National Theatre. Guest appearances have taken him to La Scala, Milan, the Munich Biennale, the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Komische Oper in Berlin, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Dresden and Stuttgart State Operas, Lucerne Opera, Prague's Estates Theatre and the Salzburg Festival. Markus Eiche's versatility is reflected not least in his wide-ranging concert repertory, which includes works of the most varied periods and styles. He has been equally successful in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, Bach's St Matthew and St John Passions, B minor Mass and Christmas Oratorio and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Since the start of the 2007/8 season Markus Eiche has been a member of the Vienna State Opera ensemble, where his roles have included Marcello in La bohème and Albert in Werther.
