Urs Schönebaum
Studied photography in Munich and worked with Max Keller as a part of the lighting department of Münchner Kammerspiele from1995 until 1998. After being assistant director for productions at Grand Théâtre de Genève, Lincoln Center New York and Münchner Kammerspiele he started to work as a lighting designer for opera, theater, installations and performances in 2000.
He has participated in over 80 productions at major theaters including Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, Covent Garden London, Opéra Bastille Paris, La Monnaie Bruxelles, Metropolitan Opera New York, Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schaubühne Berlin, Staatsschauspiel München, Dramaten Stockholm, Det Norske Teatret Oslo, Comédie Française Paris, Teatro dell’Opera Roma, Festival d’Avignon, Teatro Real Madrid, Festival d'Aix en Provence, Bolshoi Theater Moscow and Salzburger Festspiele. He regulary worked with directors such as Thomas Langhoff, Jean-Paul Scarpitta, Thomas Ostermeier, Stefan Larsson, Jan Philipp Gloger, La Fura dels Baus, William Kentridge and is a long-time collaborator of Robert Wilson.
His works also include lighting designs for art projects with Vanessa Beecroft, Anselm Kiefer, Dan Graham and Marina Abramović, as well as for installations in Krakow, Munich, Salzburg, Expo 02, Flims Switzerland and New York.
