The Swedish opera singer and singing teacher Berit Lindholm passed away on 12 August. After her debut in 1963 at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, the singer appeared in the course of her career at Covent Garden Opera in London, the Vienna State Opera, the opera houses in Moscow, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Paris, Marseille, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Zurich. She became one of the most important Wagner singers of her generation, making her debut at the Bayreuth Festival in 1967 as Venus in “Tannhäuser”, 1968-69 as the Third Norn, and 1968-71 and 1973 as Brünnhilde in the Ring cycle. We will keep Berit Lindholm in honourable memory.
