Festival Open Air 2024 on July 24 and 30!

After the two successful open airs in recent years, the festival orchestra will be playing twice again this summer on the hill in front of the Festspielhaus: free of charge for everyone. Culinary delights will be provided on site and picnics can of course be brought along.

The third Festival Open Air focuses on Richard Wagner’s life stages in music: Leipzig, Dresden, Riga, Munich, Paris, Bayreuth – Venice and accompanies the composer’s travels with works from those countries that influenced Wagner – and of course with his own music. What role did Dresden and the revolution play for Wagner? Why did he rub up against Paris so much? What music accompanied him on his way from Munich to Bayreuth? And what drew him to Italy at the end of his life? Once again, we will cover a wide musical spectrum from Bach to Lloyd Webber, with additional works by Boieldieu, Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner, Verdi and Liszt.

Musical direction: Nathalie Stutzmann

Soloists: Catherine Foster, Birger Radde, Michael Kupfer-Radecky, Tilmann Unger

Moderation: Axel Brüggemann
