Saturday, 25 July 2020 would have been the start of the Bayreuth Festival: The festival, the city of Bayreuth and Bayreuth Marketing & Tourism have organised a comprehensive alternative programme, live and digital.
Due to Corona, the Bayreuth Festival had to be cancelled in March 2020. This historic cancellation was compensated with great commitment: Wagner fans and culture lovers can look forward to a first-class programme from Bayreuth:
In addition to the cooperation with Deutsche Grammophon and Bayerischer Rundfunk/ 3sat, the concert “Wagner 2020” under the direction of Christian Thielemann with members of the Festival Orchestra and soloists Camilla Nylund and Klaus Florian Vogt will take place on 25 July at 4 pm in Haus Wahnfried. The concert will be broadcast live by Bayerischer Rundfunk and can also be followed on location in front of Haus Wahnfried for up to 400 people. The entrance fee is five euros as registration fee and to fulfill the Corona requirements. Tickets are available online and at the box office Bayreuth from 22.7.2020 at 9 am, https://www.musica-bayreuth.de/event/wahnfried-open-air. There is a reservation fee of 5 Euro per seat, there are only double seats and some single seats.
To kick off the alternative programme in the festival city, there will be a unique homage to this virtuoso in the Beethoven Year: all string quartets will be performed on six Sundays in July and August in Wagner’s home. On Saturday, 25.7.2020, music lovers at home will enjoy one of the concerts and a virtual tour of Haus Wahnfried as a stream from 10.00 a.m. at www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/summertime.
The cancellation of this year’s festival also hits the artists hard. Orchestra members and artists who are very well known and appreciated in Bayreuth, such as Annette Dasch, Michael Volle, Andreas Schager, Günther Groissböck, Peter Seiffert, Petra- Maria Schnitzer, Martin Tingvall and the pianist Markus Becker, have come together to let Bayreuth sound in alternative formats from classical music to jazz on several stages in the city centre as well as on the lake stage.
An overview of the programme can be found at www.summertime.bayreuth.de. Bookings can be made online and in the ticket offices on site from 14 days in advance.
