And together and happy they drive off into the sunset: the touching final video sequence of Tannhäuser at the Bayreuth Festival in Tobias Kratzer’s production was widely seen on social media after Stephen Gould’s death and touched people. This prompted TAff to commemorate this great tenor once again – with a “TAff cinema day with Stephen Gould”, on which he can be seen in two outstanding opera productions at the Bayreuth Festival:
The date: Monday, August 5
On the program:
“Tannhäuser – und der Sängerkrieg auf der Wartburg”, Bayreuth Festival 2019 with Stephen Gould in the role of Tannhäuser and Lise Davidsen as Elisabeth. Valery Gergiev was the musical director in the premiere year. Directed by Tobias Kratzer.
“Tristan und Isolde”, Bayreuth Festival 2015: Stephen Gould in the title role of Tristan and Evelyn Herlitzius as Isolde. The musical director of this production was Christian Thielemann. Directed by Katharina Wagner.
Two great pieces, one great singer – a whole day for and with Stephen Gould. TAff is particularly keen to bring this outstanding voice, which fell silent forever on September 12, 2023, back to his fans – or to show newcomers that opera can be so entertaining on the one hand and so profound on the other. And that’s how great its artists are!
The opera performances are shown in one day – but there is enough time for breaks and discussions. The TAff cinema day starts with “Tannhäuser” at 3 pm; curtain up for “Tristan and Isolde” from 8 pm.
Ticket costs: 20 €/movie
