Carl Hegemann
Born in Paderborn in 1949, he studied philosophy, literature and sociology in Frankfurt/M. and did his doctorate in philosophy with his thesis about „Identität und Selbst-Zerstörung“ in 1979 (Frankfurt/M. 1982). He is Professor of dramaturgy at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig. In 1980 he established together with Frank Wolff the "Frankfurter Kurorchester". Furthermore he worked as editor at the ZDF (1984-1985); as dramaturge at the Tübinger Zimmertheater (1979-80), the Staatstheater Wiesbaden (1985-1986); as dramaturge, director and actor in the ensemble at the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen (1986-1989); as leading acting advisor at the Städtische Bühnen Freiburg/Breisgau (1989-1992); as dramaturge at the Volksbühne at the Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin (1992-1995 and 1998-2006); as chief dramaturge at the Schauspielhaus Bochum (1995-1996) and at the Berliner Ensemble (1996-1998). Among others he was guest dramaturge at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg (1998, 2005), the Schauspielhaus Zürich (2001, 2004), the Theater Basel (2000, 2002), the Wiener Burgtheater (2007, 2009), the Manaus Opera House, Brazil (2007), the Deutsche Oper Berlin (2008 also as director) and at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden (2010).
At the Bayreuther Festspiele he was dramaturge for Christoph Schlingensief’s Parsifal production (2004-2007) and in 2011 for Sebastian Baumgarten’s production of Tannhäuser.
He published among others „Plädoyer für die unglückliche Liebe – Texte über Paradoxien des Theaters“ (Berlin 2005/2010).
