Christian Schröder studied comparative literature, philosophy and Romance studies in Mainz and Dijon. Following his work as a research assistant at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, he began working as a dramaturge at the theater. After working for the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen, the Stadttheater Gießen (GMD Michael Hofstetter) and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, he has been head dramaturge at the Aalto Theater Essen since the beginning of the 2015/2016 season. This has resulted in collaborations with directors such as Balázs Kovalik, Nigel Lowery, Roman Hovenbitzer, Hans Walter Richter, Andriy Zholdak, Alexandra Szemerédy/Magdolna Parditka, Roland Schwab, Kay Link, Hans Hollmann, Dietrich W. Hilsdorf, Ben Baur, Floris Visser, Lotte de Beer, Moshe Leiser/Patrice Caurier and Vincent Boussard, with choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Tim Plegge as well as Ben Van Cauwenbergh and composers such as Richard van Schoor, Moritz Eggert, Gordon Kampe and Aribert Reimann.
