Jan Philipp Gloger
Jan Philipp Gloger is a german director of theatre and opera. He studied applied theatre studies at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen as well as directing at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.
Since 2007, Gloger has directed plays at the Bayerischen Staatsschauspiel München, the Theater Augsburg, the Staatstheater Mainz, the Deutschen Theater Berlin, the Deutschen Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, at the Ruhrfestspielen in Recklinghausen, at the Schaubühne in Berlin, the Staatstheater Wiesbaden and the Staatsschauspiel Dresden among others. 2017 he directed the world premiere of Elfriede Jelineks play Das Licht im Kasten at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. Starting with the 2018/2019 season, Gloger has been apponited Director of theatre at the Staatstheater Nürnberg.
He has directed opera since 2010 at Theater Augsburg, at Dresden's Semperoper, Oper Frankfurt, Opernhaus Zürich, Aalto-Theater Essen, the Nederlanse Opera Amsterdam and at the Royal Opera House in London. In 2012 his new production of Der fliegende Holländer opened the Bayreuther Festspiele.
His work has earned him awards at the Mülheimer Theatertagen, the Bayerische Theatertage and the Heidelberger Stückemarkt.
Jan Philipp Gloger held talks at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, at the Zentrum für Literaturforschung Berlin and at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt. He collaborated on publications on directing and on copy rights issues in staging and has published texts in Theater der Zeit and in the british Guardian.
